President Klaus Iohannis and USR-PLUS candidate Dan Barna have submitted today their bids for the presidential election to the Central Electoral Bureau. Iohannis raised over 2.2 million signatures, while the USR-PLUS candidate Dan Barna gathered almost 400,000.
Klaus Iohannis was accompanied to BEC by several Liberal leaders, including chairman Ludovic Orban, while Dan Barna was accompanied by PLUS leader Dacian Ciolos and other members of the Alliance, Vlad Voiculescu, Cristian Ghinea, Raluca Pruna and was welcomed by supporters.
Dan Barna has stated that Romania needs a change to prevent another immigration, while also criticising the incumbent president Klaus Iohannis, running for a second term at Cotroceni.
Barna said that Iohannis had been “a fireman for the moments when the house was on fire and was collapsing”.
“I think president Iohannis has been a fireman for the moments when the house was set on fire and was collapsing. I consider that if he had been a more careful and more diligent householder maybe we wouldn’t have burnt down so many times in the past years“, Dan Barna said.
He also slammed PM Viorica Dancila, another contender for the President seat.
“I ask Mrs Dancila where is that economic growth she has been constantly talking about? because Romanians don’t feel it. In fact we cannot rely on the old political class. I am part of a generation that wants, can and will reform Romania. I wonder in which country with economic growth citizens are leaving it? Nowhere else. We have to make the change now, today. We can’t afford losing another million of people in the next 5 years“, the USR-PLUS leader argued.
President Klaus Iohannis said while filing his candidature that he would like a new mandate to be able to repair, next to a Government that he can work with, everything that PSD has ruined in the past years. At the same time, Iohannis replied to Barna’s criticism. “Yes, I was a kind of atomic fireman who prevented Romania from collapsing”.
“It is a complicated period for Romania and hard work is needed to repair what PSD has ruined in all those years. We have to see the huge damage made by PSD. I have managed to prevent many of the damages planned by PSD. We have recently had a notable success, the referendum on May 26, when, together with the Romanians, we managed to stop PSD from destroying the judiciary“, Iohannis pointed out.
Referring to Barna’s criticism, he retorted: “Yes, I was a kind of atomic fireman who prevented Romanian from collapsing. Without me, PSD would have succeeded in destroying the justice, to seize the entire country. Unfortunately, the constitutional architecture didn’t allow me to do more. I used all powers provided by the Constitution”.
