Liviu Dragnea: I will call on Victor Ponta to join the electoral campaign. Geoana’s expulsion from PSD was a mistake

Social-democrat president Liviu Dragnea said Sunday night that he would call Victor Ponta to invite him to participate to the election campaign, including to the drafting of the governing programme.

“I think this discussion should end in next few days. Victor Ponta is one of the most valuable people PSD has had, a good party chairman, a good premier, one of the best prime ministers, he did good things together with us, with the whole team. PSD needs Victor Ponta, Romania needs Victor Ponta,” Liviu Dragnea told RTV.

He also said he wants the subject to conclude in a positive manner.

“I want to close down this issue as soon as possible in a positive way. He had no fight with me, I had no fight with him. I hope he would start working with me, together with our colleagues, to complete the governing programme and travel around the country to talk to people and tell them what we want to do for them,” added the PSD leader.

PSD Deputy, former Premier Victor Ponta, has said in his turn on Sunday evening that it’s the decision of Liviu Dragnea if he should go to the PRU to help it enter the parliament, saying that it’s better to transfer a player to another team than to keep him in the stands.

“The first option always remains PSD. Always, in any situation, at any age and at any time,” Ponta said, adding that he will never bring damage to PSD.

On the other hand, Dragnea said that expelling Mircea Geoana from the PSD was a mistake that should be mended, showing that collaboration with the party led by Geoana could be beneficial.

“The fact that Mircea Geoana was excluded from PSD I think it was a mistake that should be fixed. Not necessarily to bring back Mircea Geoana, but a serious collaboration with the party he leads can only be beneficial. However, Mircea Geoana has done something for the party, as he could. I think all the forces who acted and felt for this party, for the left in Romania, should unite to do something in the elections,” Dragnea told RTV.

He said that in the coming period, he will discuss with Geoana about a possible collaboration between PSD and PSRO.

“I believe a meeting with Geoana is good. I’ve also talked with Tariceanu to build up a political group around PSD, which might be a good solution. The majority (in parliament) will be assured by PSD and ALDE,” Dragnea said.
