The chairman of the Social Democrat Party, Liviu Dragnea, says that he will resign from the party chair position if PSD doesn’t win the elections on December 11.

“I shall resign if PSD doesn’t win elections (…) In politics, like in sports, the one who loses elections is the one who doesn’t rank first,” the Social Democrat head argued.

Liviu Dragnea is the second party leader who mentions resignation related to the upcoming elections’ failure.

A week ago, the National Liberal Party chairwoman Alina Gorghiu announced in Timisoara that she would resign from the party’s helm “if PNL is not the party around which the parliamentary majority is formed, a majority that shall give the future Romania’s premier.”

While attending a press conference at PNL Timis, Gorghiu said that the party has a huge responsibility in the elections this year.

“I am counting on a better mobilization in the parliamentary elections. The National Liberal Party’s responsibility is huge, we are practically deciding the country’s direction for the upcoming ten years. I don’t see things the other way,” the Liberal chairwoman said, while also referring to a potential resignation.

“You know, I am assuming a resignation very clearly if the National Liberal Party is not the party to coagulate around it the parliamentary majority that will give the future Romania’s premier,” Gorghiu added.
