Lower chamber amended Criminal Code. Conflict of interest replaced
The Chamber of Deputies has passed on Tuesday the draft amending articles 301 and 308 in the Criminal Code, replacing the word “conflict of interest” by “using the position to favor certain persons”.
So, article 301 from the Criminal Code named “conflict of interest” becomes “using the position to favor certain persons” at present. It stipulates that “the deed of the public servant who, while exerting his/her work duties, has done something through which he obtained a benefit for himself/herself, for his husband or his wife, or for a relative, is punished from one to five years in prison and the interdiction of the right to hold a public office for three years,” according to the draft passed by the lowe chamber.
The bill was passed by 187 votes to 71 and six abstentions. USR has vetoed it, arguing the amendments represent “a back-set”.
The Chamber of Deputies is the decision-making body.
