MEP: PM Dancila said there is no corruption in Romania, but just a different cultural approach
Frank Engel, Luxembourg-based MEP, the chief of the Christian Social Party, part of the European People’s Party, said that Romanian PM Viorica Dancila had told Socialist MEPs that „there is no corruption in Romania, but just a different cultural approach, of giving something to thank somebody”, according to ziare.com.
„Let me tell you what has Mrs Dancila stated before the Socialist group. A Socialist MEP from Hungary told me very amused that, before addressing the European Parliament plenary sitting, Mrs Dancila had come to the group and the members had reproached her the corruption-related problems in Romania. And she said it is not true, that there is no corruption in Romania, that it is just a different cultural approach, to thank somebody. I thought it was very very clever to talk about a cultural difference. Practically, I could directly buy a favorable ruling in justice, but that would not mean I am corrupt or that I would corrupt somebody, no, it means I would have a specific cultural conduct”, said Frank Engel.
