Minister of Justice has violated the procedures by supporting Kovesi for DNA chief, Senate Speaker says
Senate Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu has said on Monday that the Justice Minister’s announcement to support Laura Codruta Kovesi for another DNA mandate is a violation of procedures and has called on PM Dacian Ciolos to warn Minister Raluca Pruna.
“I want to be very well understood: I am not talking about the person. I am talking about the principle and the legal procedures which the minister has violated and disregarded. (…) Although regarding the prosecutors, the minister said she would observe all procedures, now we see she goes pass them, she is very convinced of what she has to do and wants to observe the procedure only for the Prosecutor General, while for the DNA chief she had found a shortcut, the announcement during a press conference,” Tariceanu said on Monday.
The Senate Speaker also claims the Justice Minister has given a bad signal for the system, as the prosecutors have seen some ‘offices’ are ‘booked from the very beginning’.
“I believe it’s the prime minister’s responsibility to draw the justice minister’s attention to act according to the law, otherwise the entire procedure will turn into something else; there are objective criteria and it’s normal to be taken into consideration, now we see other criteria are in force,” Tariceanu said.
Justice Minister Raluca Pruna announced last Thursday, during the DNA balance sheet, that she assumes the proposal to reinvest Laura Codruta Kovesi as DNA chief prosecutor for a new mandate.
