Prime Minister Viorica Dancila announced on Wednesday she took act of the resignation of the treasurer, ziare.com reports.

As ‘Romania Journal’ informed at the time, Social-Democratic Party treasurer Mircea Draghici was heard on April 2 by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA), saying when leaving, that he believes it is exaggerated to be indicted for not observing a law he promoted in Parliament, a law he knows best. He was announced he is prosecuted for embezzlement and utilizing the subsidies for the party in other purposes.

DNA decided on April 22 to extend the prosecution against Mircea Draghici, in regard to another offence of embezzlement.

A DNA release read that the prosecutors of the Section for Combating Corruption have noted that, as treasurer of the party, with management and administration attributions of goods and money of the respective political party, the suspect has decided to take out of the party’s patrimony an luxury automobile (Mercedes Benz model GLE 350 Coupe) valued at RON 324,800, without cashing the money when making the deal.

The release read that on July 10, 2017, the party, represented by the treasurer, bought the automobile and on July 18, 2017 the automobile was sold to a treasurer’s relative, however the car was not paid when sold. The money was paid on August 23, 2018.

DNA prosecutors announced earlier in April in a press release that Draghici had been indicted for he would have taken EUR 380,000 from the state subsidies for PSD, that he allegedly utilized to pay a house, more precisely by concluding a rental agreement of a house.

Social-democrat Deputy Chairman, Mihai Fifor, resigned as Defence Minister in November 2018, hours before the PSD Executive Committee which was expected to discuss the Government reshuffling. Fifor claimed he will support the party to strengthen the team.
