New Transport minister swears into office

New Minister of Transport Iulian Matache took the oath of office on Friday morning at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.

Matache said aftert the swearing-in ceremony that one of the ministry’s priorities is increasing the European funds absorption, but also implementing the Master Plan.

Asked about the chances that Comarnic-Brasov motorway should be built during his term as minister, Matache commented that he doesn’t know how short or how long his term is going to be.

“The projection and execution projects of the Comarnic-Brasov motorway’s first two sections have been published for the open tendering. Those for the rest three sections will be filed by the end of the month,” the new minister explained.

President Klaus Iohannis wished the new minister good luck.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Vice-Premier Gabriel Oprea, Chamber of Deputies’ Speaker Valeriu Zgonea, presidential advisors and members of Government, while Premier Victor Ponta and Senate Speaker Calin Popescu-Tariceanu were missing.

Iulian Matache, engineer by trade, was state secretary within the Transport Ministry since March last year, but he was transferred to the Development Ministry.

Matache is presented by the local media as close to Vrancea County Council leader, Marian Oprisan, also known as one of the Social Democrat local barons.
