Darius Valcov, adviser to Prime Minister Viorica Dancila on economic issues, suggests Governor Mugur Isarescu could be replaced from the National Bank’s helm and hints also at Competition Council chief, urging an investigation on banks.
Asked whether Mugur Isarescu has chances to get another term at the BNR leadership, Valvoc said: “I believe each one should look at what he has to do with his career, sometimes it’s better to leave the position vacant for others. It is my personal opinion.”
Valcov charged BNR and the banks, requesting the central bank to be ‘more patriotic’.
“The fiber is patriotic, not nationalistic. This is what we request BNR. We are short of patriots. Romanians’ interest should be on the first position, not the BNR interest,” he said, according to Realitatea TV private broadcaster.
“BNR is responsible for the exchange rate fluctuation and it is its duty. Haven’t Romanians been stressed when signing for loans with 7% interest and the interest for deposits was only 1%? Haven’t Romanians been nervous on the greed of banks which for 30 years had a good life in Romania? We need to cut the appetite of the greedy companies. This ongoing process is not over,” the Premier’s adviser said.
He added that the GEO 114, known also as ‘the ordinance on greed’ will not be amended or repealed.
