Opposition, ironic on Rudolph Giuliani’s letter. Former PM Adrian Nastase: People abroad start waking up from narcotics
Save Romania Union (USR) leader, Dan Barna (photo 1), said on Monday that the letter sent by Rudolph Giuliani “has no political consistency, adding that the Romanian President might receive letters from President Trump’s hairdresser and from the chef. The liberals have also reacted, saying that the letter is a result of lobby and for Giuliani this is business.
“I am looking forward and we are all expecting the moment when the letter from Mr. Trump’s hairdresser arrives. I believe President Iohannis too is waiting with concern the devastating messages from the hairdresser and then from Donald Trump’s chef, pointing to the Mr. Augustin Lazar’s activity,” Dan Barna said on Monday.
He added that the letter is the result of lobby, ziare.com informs.
“This letter has no political consistency. The letter seems to be dictated by Liviu Dragnea and Antena 3 TV. The US position has repeatedly been expressed by the Department of State and by the US Embassy in Bucharest and is contrary to the direction expressed by the letter Mr. Giuliani has signed,” the USR leader said.
In turn, PNL First Vice-chairman, Raluca Turcan (photo 2), said the letter seems “written by the public relations consultants of investigated persons.”
“The letter is in contradiction with all official positions of the US, with all assessments, but also in terms of the strategic partnership between the US and Romania. Hence, it should be regarded only as a point of view. The letter seems written by the public relations consultants of people under investigation. Mr. Giuliani wants to earn some money and it is understandable. The US companies know how it is like to face corruption in Romania,” Turcan said.
Former PM Adrian Nastase: People abroad start waking up from narcotics
Former Premier Adrian Nastase (photo 3) argues that the letter “is a sign that even abroad people start waking up from the narcotics” of former Justice Minister, Monica Macovei.
“It seems strange that someone from abroad has to tell us these protocols are abnormal. You could have asked me long before to say the same thing. This letter has an important significance, shows a change in approach, including in the US, related to the judiciary’s activity based on such relations between prosecutor’s offices, prosecutors and intelligence services,” Nastase said.
Asked whether an independent committee, made up by international judges, should be established to examine the origins of the secret protocols, as Giuliani suggests, Adrian Nastase said the letter should be regarded as a ‘signal’.
“Let’s not exaggerate. It’s about a message, rather a signal that people abroad start waking up from the narcotics given by people like Monica Macovei and others. Through the democrat party, they tried to control the political situation in Romania. I believe it is about an important political message and this issue should be considered,” the former Premier said.
Rudolph Giuliani, President Trump’s lawyer, has sent a letter to President Klaus Iohannis, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila and the two Parliament Speakers regarding the protocols signed by the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI).
The letter mentions “the continuing damage to the rule of law in Romania” and the “DNA excesses.”
