The National Liberal Party co-president Vasile Blaga told the public TV on Monday night that Liberals would file a no-confidence motion “when it comes to the point”, adding that personally, he would want a minority government, but not shutting out a potential collaboration with the National Union for Romania’s Progress (UNPR) led by VP Gabriel Oprea.

“We’ll file a no-confidence motion at the right time. In October we’ll come up with the teams for the ministries and we’ll file a censure motion by the end of the parliamentary session,” Vasile Blaga told TVR.

He unveiled that PNL would like a minority government, but he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of joining forces with UNPR to form a cabinet, arguing “it has always been an honest party”.

“I would like a minority government if there won’t be any snap elections, although we would like to have snap elections. I come from the Democrat Liberal Party with a larger experience than more PNL members on collaborating to Gabriel Oprea and UNPR. Let’s not forget that UNPR supported Boc and Ungureanu government, they were fair, honest, those governments were not toppled because of them,” Blaga said.

Questioned if he wants to run any ministry, Blaga said he is not interested in that at present.

In retort, PSD interim chairman Liviu Dragnea said that it’s normal that the Liberals would want to come into power and that they have the right to file a new no-confidence motion. However, he stated that the current parliamentary majority is solid and a potential undertaking would fail.

“You don’t have to make plans, to get ready for a no-confidence motion. We are in a ruling coalition, we don’t see how a no-confidence motion could pass, considering the ruling coalition is large enough and we have a strong endorsement in Parliament for this Government,” Dragnea argued.
