The Senate rejected on Tuesday the Government Ordinance on introducing for employers the obligation to pay CAS (social security contribution) and CASS (health security contribution) at the level of the minimum wage of RON 1,450, for part-time employees, regardless of whether the remuneration is under the minimum salary level, hotnews.ro informs.

The vote in the Senate plenum comes after the budget-finance senate committee, led by Social Democrat Eugen Teodorovici, adopted a report rejecting the ordinance late last month.

The Senate is the first chamber notified in this case, and the Chamber of Deputies will be the decision-making body.

On July 20, the Government approved an Ordinance on introducing for employers the obligation to pay CAS and CASS at the level of the minimum wage for part-time employees, regardless of whether the remuneration is below the minimum wage, with the exception of this provision for pupils, students and retirees.
