Over 6,000 Romanians Abroad Choose Mail-In Voting for Elections

The Permanent Electoral Authority announced that 6,085 applications for voting by correspondence out of the 6,496 submitted on the portal www.votstrainatate.ro for the presidential elections met the legal requirements.

The registration period for voters abroad by correspondence ended on March 20, at 11:59 p.m., and all validated applications met the legal requirements.

At the same time, “Romanian citizens abroad could register until March 4, 2025, 23:59, as a voter abroad at a polling station, in this regard 2,611 applications for voting at the station were submitted, of which 2,238 met the legal conditions provided for in art. 8 paragraph (1) of Law no. 370/2004, in order to be able to organize, with the agreement of the authorities in the respective country, polling stations for the localities or groups of localities in which at least 100 voters opted to vote”, shows the AEP press release.

The cited source also says that, in the elections for the President of Romania in May, the Romanian voter can vote at any polling station abroad, even if he/she has not registered on the portal www.votstrainatate.ro.

Registration on the portal was only required for postal voting or for setting up a polling station in localities or groups of localities where at least 100 voters opted to vote, AEP also stated.
