Palestine’s ambassador to Romania, Fuad Kokaly, has been recalled to Ramallah for consultations on Wednesday morning, informs the Palestinian Embassy in Bucharest.

Ambassador Fuad Kokaly will leave Romania on Wednesday night.

Before leaving, ambassador Kokaly told an interview to RFI that he would not recommend Palestinian authorities to break diplomatic ties with Romania.

I don’t think Ramallah wants this. I will try to explain the conflict between the President and the Government, and I will also describe the tensions that the Executive in Bucharest is subject to,” the Palestinian envoy stated.

I will not recommend a break from Romania. I am against any escalation, generally speaking,” he added.

The representative of the Romanian government seemed to know much about the Palestinian ambassador’s recall. Government spokesperson Nelu Barbu said on Wednesday afternoon that he doesn’t know if the prime minister had been informed about the recall.

I don’t know to answer this question. I don’t know if the premier has been informed or not, at least not while I was attending the government sitting,” said the spokesperson when asked if the Foreign Minister or another representative of the Foreign ministry has informed PM Viorica Dancila about the latest decision of the Palestinian State.

Palestine has recalled its ambassadors to four European countries, Romania included, after these countries had sent representatives to attend the opening of the new US embassy in  Jerusalem.

The four European countries criticised by the Palestinians after they broke with EU policy on the Jerusalem move and attended the controversial celebration.

The Ramallah government said it considers the participation a “grave violation of international law.”
