PLUS to challenge GEO 7 to all Courts of Appeals in the country, requests referral to the Constitutional Court
PLUS political party has announced on Monday that it will challenge the Emergency Ordinance no.7, which amends the laws of justice, to all the Courts of Appeals in the country and will request its referral to the Constitutional Court of Romania.
“As of today, PLUS will file applications to all the Courts of Appeals in the country asking for the CCR to be notified on the unconstitutionality of GEO 7/2019, which brings new amendments to the Laws of Justice,” the party headed by former Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos says a press release.
“We fully support the actions of the civil society, deeply concerned about the situation in justice and the acts initiated by the Minister of Justice. There is a need for concrete actions to allow the assessment and eventual annulment of the ordinance by which (Justice Minister) Tudorel Toader tries to politically subordinate the prosecutor’s offices in Romania. One possible solution is to challenge to the courts all over the country, hoping that it will quickly reach the Constitutional Court,” PLUS chairman Dacian Ciolos said in the document.
The former prime minister also said he is determined to turn to make use of all possible legal means to cancel the controversial emergency ordinance.
Tens of thousands of people went out Sunday night across the country to protest against the Government Emergency Ordinance 7, adopted last week.
