As a first, PM Viorica Dăncilă has mentioned on Thursday the possibility of running for Presidency. In an interview to DC news, Dăncilă said that, if the party asked her to run and this is the only solution, she would accept. However, the PSD chairwoman said she had considered this, but that she is not ruling out this possibility.
“I haven’t considered running, but if the party asks me and this is the only solution, I will accept”, the prime minister stated.
At the extraordinary congress that elected Viorica Dăncilă as chairwoman of the ruling party on June 30, she underlined that she would not run in the presidential election this autumn.
PSD is currently conducting some internal poll to measure the chances of potential candidates for the top seat at Cotroceni, among whom there are Eugen Teodorovici, Şerban Nicolae, Liviu Pleşoianu, Ecaterina Andronescu and Călin Popescu Tăriceanu. At the same time, PSD has also included an independent candidate in their polls, without yet revealing who he or she is.
“We would like to have a candidate to maximize PSD chances. We started from 22 percent, with our chairman arrested. It is not easy to catch up on such short notice. But I trust our party and that the voters will make a good choice”, PM Dăncilă also said.
PSD leader also said the first results of the polls had arrived but a decision will be taken at the PSD Congress on August 3.
