PM Viorica Dăncilă has appointed Liviu Vasilescu to run the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police. The decision has been published in the Official Gazette today. Vasilescu has been been Head of the Special Operations Directorate within the Police Inspectorate.

The Romanian Police was run by interim Florin Dragnea after the former chief Ioan Buda had been dismissed over the Caracal murder case.

The new chief of the Romanian Police, Liviu Vasilescu, had been replaced from the helm of the Special Operations Directorate in April 2018 and relocated to the Arms and Ammunition Service.

According to sources to G4Media.ro, Vasilescu was sacked upon the former PSD leader Liviu Dragnea’s request, who thus wanted to have more control over the Special Operations department in the relation with the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA).
