PM Tudose meets British Ambassador Brummell, expresses confidence Romanians in UK will not to be affected by Brexit

Prime Minister Mihai Tudose has met British Ambassador in Bucharest Paul Brummell on Tuesday, to discuss about the Brexit negotiations and the development of the bilateral economic relations.

PM Tudose stressed the government wants to closely work with the UK, so that the rights of Romanians studying, working and living in the UK are respected and protected, and the bilateral economic relations rise up to the level of the excellent political collaboration between the two states, in the Brexit context.

“The UK is and will remain Romania’s partner and friend,” the Premier said. “I am confident that we’ll do applied work for the Romanians in the UK not to be affected by Brexit. At the same time, Romania provides a stable, friendly business environment, fiscal facilities for investors, therefore we have all premises for the development of the economic relations,” the head of government said, according to a government release.

In his turn, Ambassador Brummell handed to the Romanian PM a congratulation letter from the British Prime Minister Theresa May. The British diplomat underscored that it is important that the Brexit negotiations have positive results both for the UK and for the European Union, and appreciated the contribution of the community of Romanians to the British society.

“The Romanians working, studying and living in the UK are welcome. The best Romanian students come to the UK, very good doctors and engineers work there, who have an important contribution to our economy,” the British envoy said.

The ambassador highlighted the interest in encouraging investments and bilateral commercial exchanges, noting the fact that British investments have been concentrated more in Bucharest, although there is a development potential in the rest of the country as well.

Another topic referred to Romania’s application to the member status of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), a context in which Prime Minister Tudose asked for London’s support to endorse Romania’s candidacy.
