The National Liberal Party (PNL) and Save Romania Union (USR) from the opposition have challenged the freshly amended justice laws to the Constitutional Court again, labeling them as ‘toxic’. Liberal deputy Gabriel Andronache said the party had identified no less than 37 unconstitutional points.

We have notified the Constitutional Court again for, obviously, what the colleagues representing the majority in Parliament have done within the re-examination procedure, has nothing to do with what has the Court written in the three decisions. We found out no less than 37 unconstitutional reasons: 22 in the law 303/2004, nine such reasons in the law 317 and six unconstitutional points in the law 304, starting from the voting procedure of these laws. I remind you, the reports reached the plenary sitting both in the Chamber of Deputies and at the Senate on the precise day when they had been adopted. An amendment has been operated on the law 303, which has been named by the parliamentary majority a technical-legislative correlation amendment, but, in fact, it has practically amended the definition of the judicial error,” said the Liberal MP.

He said the two parties hope the laws will be declared unconstitutional again and will return in Parliament for new revisions.

PSD chair says PNL and USR are a group of parties supporting the parallel state

In retort the chairman of the ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD), Liviu Dragnea has slammed the two opposition parties’ move, saying PNL and USR are supporting the parallel state and that they want abuses to go on.

A group of parties supporting the parallel state want abuses to go on (…) This dismay will end for they cannot block the course of democracy, the laws will reach the President, if he will want to get them back in parliament, those laws will eventually come into force,” Dragnea said.
