Polish ambassador in Bucharest lobbies for Baltic-Black Sea corridor’s reviving
Polish Ambassador to Romania Marek Szczygiel says he wants the north-south corridor between the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea revived, arguing this ancient commercial route linking the Romanian and Polish shores could be developed by European funds.
“We have tackled the possibilities of cooperation between Galati and Polish cities through exchanges of experience in using European funds and various plans of restoring, of reviving the north-south corridor between southeastern Romania and Poland’s seaside region. It is a very old commercial route and an excellent opportunity of development with European funds of this road and railroad corridor for the freight traffic between the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea,” Szczygiel told a meeting with local authorities in Galati on Friday, as quoted by Agerpres. He also reminded that Galati used to host a Polish consulate during the interwar period.
The Polish envoy also took the opportunity of informing on the opening of a photo exhibition on Friday, at the “Dunarea de Jos” University in Galati, on Poland’s great poetess Kazimiera Illakowiczowna. The display includes 38 panels of photographs and facsimiles of information text and archive documents, illustrating the Polish-Romanian relations in the 1920’s and during the World War II, as well as the poetess’ actions to improve the bilateral ties.
