Pope Francis seems interested in paying a visit to Romania next year, President Klaus Iohannis claimed on Saturday, after the meeting at the Vatican. The head of state says an official invitation has been already sent.
“We have reiterated our invitation in 2015, when I paid on official visit, to visit Romania in 2018. We have reiterated the invitation, already done a week ago in a written form of protocol. (…) He seemed very interested from the very beginning,” President Iohannis said.
On the occasion of taking part to the EU anniversary meeting in Rome, the European heads of state paid a visit to Pope Francis on Friday evening, digi24.ro informs.
Almost two years ago, the Romanian head of state met Pope Francis for the first time and addressed him the invitation to visit Romania.
In 1999, Pope John Paul II paid a historic visit to Romania, the first visit of a Pontiff in our country, and the first visit paid by a pope to a majority Orthodox country.
