PPDD-UNPR merger gets official
PPDD, the party set up by former media tycoon Dan Diaconescu, was officially absorbed by the National Union for Romania’s Progress (UNPR) led by vice-premier Gabriel Oprea. The merger event took place on Sunday.
“I want you to know that we are getting stronger and stronger. We had 358,000 party members, considering that the biggest party in Romania, the Social Democrat Party had about 500,000 members and the other parties about 100,000 members. Over 70,000 Romanian has registered in UNPR in the past two months. Along with PPDD we are now over 500,000,” president Gabriel Oprea said.
He also expressed will that UNPR should stay in power and become “the third party in size in Romania”.
“Who wants stability, security and reliability can come to UNPR, so we can reach to 1 million party members. I know it’s hard but we’ll make it,” UNPR leader also said.
