President-elect Klaus Johannis has granted an interview to Deutsche Welle, saying about his recent victory in the presidential elections that he was certain he was going to win. He admits the final results have shocked his adversaries.

“I was sure from the very beginning I was going to win the presidential elections. I knew something was needed to take place so that the people see a change, a renewal. This idea encouraged me to go on. This very thing gave the certainty that I was going to win,” Klaus Johannis said during the interview.

Johannis further added that his political adversaries hadn’t been prepared for the result, which shook them as it took them by surprise.

“Shortly after the start of the electoral campaign I’ve put forward the issue of corruption as the central piece of my speech. By change the issue has come as the DNA (national anti-corruption department) carried on important activities. It was a good omen which had to go on,” Johannis said.

Speaking about the education system, the president-elect said Romania needs a system similar to the one in Germany. “As we look to schools, we see a dual system of education is needed, similar to the one in Germany, as not everyone is willing to graduate the baccalaureate after 12 forms and go to faculty. There are people willing to learn a trade, a sound one. This is not possible for the moment. In the health system, our patient is somewhere at the periphery. He must be placed at its core, it’s the only way the system could be improved,” Klaus Johannis said.
