President-elect Klaus Iohannis tops the confidence standings
President-elect Klaus Iohannis is leading the confidence chart, followed by Mugur Isarescu and Victor Ponta. On the other hand, PNL (made up by PNL and PDL) would win the general elections if they’d take place next week, reveals an opinion poll released by INSCOP Research, commissioned by ‘Adevarul’ newspaper.
The level of confidence in Iohannis peaks to 60 percent (very much confidence and much confidence – 35.2 percent in October), followed by Mugur Isarescu – 45.7 percent (42.6 percent in October) and Victor Ponta 26.1 percent (38.7 percent in October).
Fourth is Bucharest Mayor Sorin Oprescu – 23 percent, Calin Popescu Tariceanu – 22.5 percent and Traian Basescu – 20.7 percent.
Other personalities: George Maior – 19 percent, Mircea Geoana – 18.2 percent, Mihai Razvan Ungureanu – 17.8 percent, Catalin Predoiu – 15.7 percent, Monica Macovei – 15.6 percent, Crin Antonescu – 14.3 percent, Vasile Blaga – 12.5 percent, Ludovic Orban – 11.6 percent, Emil Boc – 11.3 percent, Ion Iliescu – 10.8 percent, Liviu Dragnea – 9.7 percent, Dan Diaconescu – 7.9 percent, Laszlo Tokes – 5.3 percent and Kelemen Hunor – 4.8 percent.
INSCOP manager, political scientist Remus Stefureac says the presidential elections have had a strong impact on people’s confidence. “People reward Iohannis and penalize other politicians. It remains to be seen if these levels will be confirmed by the opinion polls expected in January and February,” Stefureac says.
The same opinion poll reveals that, in the event of general elections next Sunday, PNL would get 41.7 percent of cast votes (31.8 percent in October), followed by the PSD-UNPR-PC alliance – 38.8 percent (41.9 percent in October), PMP – 5.6 percent (6.4 percent in October) and UDMR 5.1 percent (5.e percent in October). Other parties: PLR – 3.3 percent, PP-DD – 2.3 percent, PRM -1.2 percent and PNTCD – 0.6 percent.
Stefureac says PNL is the beneficiary as it backed Iohannis and registered a significant success. In his opinion, PSD ‘s popularity depends on the way it will solve domestic problems, on public image issues some social-democrats face, on the draft budget and other tests expected at the end of the year.
Let’s note that the first two parties (PNL and PSD’s alliance) cash more than 80 percent of the votes, placing the political scene more alike a two-party system.
The ‘INSCOP- Truth about Romania’ opinion poll was carried out during November 27 – December 2, 2014 on 1,076 individuals, being representative for the population over 18. Maxim error – plus/minus 3 percent.
