President Klaus Iohannis on Tuesday has voiced his concern related to the 2017 state budget and shared his fears with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finances, while informing he will decide if promulgating or returning the draft to the Parliament in the upcoming days.

President Iohannis called PM Sorin Grindeanu and minister of Finances, Viorel Stefan to the Cotroceni Palace for new talks on the 2017 budget on Tuesday. They had a previous meeting on the same topic on January 11.

President Iohannis said the 2017 state budget is „troublesome and risky”, adding he would get into the draft’s details together with his staff and he will take a decision on promulgating it or sending it back in Parliament in the upcoming days.

The head of state argued that the current budget draft law has overrated incomes and very high expenses, and there is a real risk to exceed the 3 pc deficit. Iohannis also warned over the high sums entailed for the committment credits.

The President told journalists that he had discussed with PM Grindeanu strictly on budget matter and they have not tackled other topics.

The meeting comes after the head of state voiced his discontent against the budget draft, particulary that the Government has cut the budgets of the national security institutions (intelligence services).

The Parliament has quickly passed the draft budget last week, with the law waiting for the Presidency’s go-ahead to come into force.
