President Klaus Iohannis has asked to address the Parliament again, on February 22nd, the Presidential Administration stated on Tuesday. Iohannis sent a letter to both speakers of the Parliament’s chambers, Călin Popescu Tăriceanu and Valeriu Zgonea.
“According to the article 88 of the Romanian Constitution, President Klaus Iohannis asks to address a message in the plenary sitting of the two Chambers of Parliament on February 22nd, at 4 p.m.,” reads the press release.
It is the first message to be addressed by the Romanian President this year.
In 2014 and 2015, Klaus Iohannis addressed the Parliament five times.
His first address was when ho swore in as president in December 2014. Later during February 2015, Iohannis attended Parliament again, requesting the adoption of a new electoral legislation and the presentation of the National Defense Strategy by the end of the parliamentary session in June 2015.
At the beginning of the new autumn parliamentary session, president Iohannis spoke in Parliament about the refugee crisis, the vote by mail, an incompatibilities code and new rules regarding local leaders.
To mark one year of mandate, Iohannis attended Parliament on December 16th, 2015, telling MPs that the great stake of 2016 is rebuilding the population’s confidence in politics.
