President Klaus Iohannis has sent a letter on Monday to all chairmen of the political parties represented in Parliament inviting them to come for consultations on the justice laws at Cotroceni Palace on Wednesday, October 24.
Social Democrat Party (PSD) is scheduled at 15:00hr, ALDE at 15:30hr, National Liberal Party (PNL) at 16:00hr, USR at 16:30, UDMR at 17:00, PMP at 17:30, while the national minorities group at 18:00hr.
The Presidential Administration mentions that each delegation can be formed by maximum five people.
The consultations come after last Friday the Council of Europe’s Venice Commission adopted a tough report on Romania’s latest amendments on the justice laws and criminal codes, expressing concern that many draft amendments to the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code seriously weaken the effectiveness of its criminal justice system to fight corruption offences, violent crimes and organised criminality.
As a matter of fact, the head of state had asked for Justice minister’s resignation right after the release of the opinion.
