President Iohannis – honorary guest at ‘The State of The Union’ Conference in Florence
President Klaus Iohannis will be honorary guest at ‘The State of The Union’ Conference in Florence, on Friday, and he will also meet Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.
“The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, will attend on Friday, May 3, as honorary guest, ‘The State of The Union’ Conference, organized by the European University Institute of Florence, Republic of Italy. On its 9th edition, the conference will have as main topic democracy in the 21st Century in Europe, with stress laid on the European election context.
“European political leaders, journalists, members of academies and representatives of civil society will debate a series of themes on the present concerning the challenges faced by the European Union and the outlook of a stronger Union, adapted and prepared for the aspirations of the next generations,” the Presidency informs in a press release on Tuesday.
The presence of the Romanian head of state at the conference takes place in the context in which Romania holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union, of hosting the summit in Sibiu in early May and of celebrating one decade since Romania joined the Convention for setting up the European University Institute in Florence.
“On the sidelines of the conference, President Klaus Iohannis will meet the President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic, Giuseppe Conte,” the release also reads.
On the occasion of the visit, President Iohannis will lay a wreath of flowers at the commemorative plaque dedicated to Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, placed next to the residence where the Prince spent his last years, in Florence.
