President Klaus Iohannis will pay an unplanned visit to Brussels following the summoning of an extraordinary summit of the European Union on Thursday, by Donald Tusk (photo), President of the European Council, in order to formulate a common European response to the worsening crisis represented by the flow of immigrants from North Africa, ziare.com informs.
According to stiripesurse.ro a small delegation will accompany the president in Brussels.
“The situation in the Med is dramatic. It cannot continue like this. We cannot accept that hundreds of people die when they try to cross the sea to Europe. This is why I have decided to call an extraordinary summit this Thursday,” said Tusk in a video message.
The EU leaders will also examine ways of helping “the most affected European countries” and to accelerate cooperation with the countries of origin of immigrants and those of transit.
“The situation in Med concerns not only the countries in our southern neighbourhood, it concerns all of us, all of Europe, that’s why we need to act and act together now”, Tusk concluded, according to euractiv.com.
