President Iohannis meets Austrian President Fischer, attends Salzburg Festival opening
President Klaus Iohannis on Sunday met Austrian President Heinz Fischer in Salzburg.
A Presidency’s press release informs that the two presidents talked about European and international current affairs.
“Regarding the European topic, the two presidents highlighted the interest to enhance cooperation and coordination on topics of regional interest in the view of alternately holding the EU Council Presidency by Romania and Austria in 2019. The desire to boost the partnership within the EU Strategy for Danube Region and in the Western Balkans was also underlined,” reads the press release.
At the same time, President Iohannis and his Austrian counterpart talked about the bilateral relations, expressing “their satisfaction with the high level of dialogue and cooperation on various fields between Austria and Romania, as well as the desire for the relations’ enhancement.”
President Iohannis and his wife also attended the official opening of the Salzburg Festival on Sunday, at the invitation of his Austrian counterpart.
“The Festival taking place in the birth place of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is rejoining music, opera and theatre goers from all over the world, while representing a tradition, as it has been held since 1920. I believe in the culture’s strength to reunite people and I am supporter of the cultural events,” reads a post on the president’s Facebook page.
