President Iohannis names Sandra Pralong as adviser of the state on relation with Diaspora

President Klaus Iohannis appointed Sandra Pralong as adviser of state within the Department for Relation with Romanians abroad starting September 1, the presidential administration announced on Monday.

Pralong is a writer, political scientist and civic activist. She emigrated from Romania during the communist regime and returned after the 1989 revolution, to set up the Romanian branch of the George Soros Open Society Foundation.

Pralong was an adviser to President Emil Constantinescu (1998 — 2000). In 2012, she ran for the Senate on behalf of the Christian Democrat National Peasant Party (PNTCD).

“Dear friends, as of tomorrow I’ll take over new responsibilities as adviser of state within the Presidential Administration, being in charge of the Romanians living abroad. I hope we can involve together to capitalize the full potential of the Romanians living abroad for our country (…)”, Pralong wrote on Facebook shortly after the Presidency’s official notice.
