President Iohannis’ protocol blunders during visit in Italy
President Klaus Iohannis has made two protocol blunders during his state visit to Italy these days. While meeting the mayor of Rome, the Romanian head of state has been announced by the trumpeters but he has not stopped to salute them and wanted to go up stairs. On Monday, Klaus Iohannis had made the first protocol mistake during the meeting with the Italian PM Giuseppe Conte.
During the visit to the Rome City Hall, while trumpeters were announcing the Romania President’s arrival, he did not stop to salute them and wanted to go up stairs. Warned by a person from the crown that welcomed the presidential pair, Klaus Iohannis and his wife Carmen eventually stopped and saluted.
During the meeting with PM Conte, after the first part of the welcoming ceremony, Romania’s President turned around and wanted to leave and enter the Government Palace, although he should have moved forward in the Palace’s courtyard, while the guard was holding the salute. After the Italian premier warned him, Iohannis came back and the ceremony went on.
On Tuesday, President Iohannis met the representatives of the Romanian community in Italy, with the head of state saying that each Romanian in Italy is „a Romania’s ambassador”.
Also on Tuesday, Iohannis had talks with the speaker of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Roberto Fico and meetings with the Italian Employers Confederation, the mayor of Rome, Virigina Raggi, after on Monday he had met the Italian President Sergio Mattarella and the Italian PM Giuseppe Conte.
On Wednesday, the Romanian President has met the mayor of Naples, Luigi De Magistris.
