President Iohannis, Romanian officials condemn London attacks. Seven dead, 48 injured, 12 people arrested

President Klaus Iohannis has firmly condemned the terrorist attacks in London and has conveyed his profound compassion for the victims on Sunday.

“I firmly condemn the terrorist attacks that took place in London. Profound compassion with those affected by the tragic incidents in the United Kingdom,” President Iohannis wrote on Twitter.

Other high Romanian officials have expressed outrage and have condemned the attacks. The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Liviu Dragnea and the Senate Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu, have firmly condemned the attacks in London.

“I firmly condemn the attacks in London! I stand together with those affected by these events,” the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Liviu Dragnea, wrote on Sunday, on Facebook.

The Senate Speaker also wrote: “I wish to address condolences to the affected families, profound compassion for the victims of the terrorist attacks that happened in London and our entire solidarity with the United Kingdom, which is subjected to trials hard to imagine for the civilized world. The frequency and cruelty of terrorist attacks has risen in an alarming rate in the past. Governments and a series of international institutions have at their disposal adequate legislation, material, technical and human means and must act with more efficiency to combat terrorism and protect the integrity and lives of citizens that have become the innocent targets of such criminals.”

Foreign Ministry also condemns the incidents, no Romanians injured

The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) has firmly condemned the terrorist incidents that occurred on the night of June 3 to 4 in London.

The ministry informs that the Romanian embassy in London has taken steps upon the local authorities to get data regarding the victims’ identities and informs is monitoring the situation and is in constant connection with the authorities, ready to grant consular assistance.

MAE conveys condolences to the mourning families, its compassion to the injured and expressed solidarity with the British people.

Royal family conveys condolences

The Royal family has sent condolences and regret to the families of the victims in London attacks and expressed confidence that the British society will find the necessary strength to overcome these tragic moments.

“The latest criminal attack in London is an act against humanity, freedom and human dignity. We are confident that the British society will find the necessary strength to overcome these tragic moments. We pray for all those who are gone and for those suffering following this tragedy. We send our compassion and our regret to the mourning families,” Crown Princess Margareta, Crown Custodian, said in a release.

Seven persons died and 48 were injured following two attacks Saturday evening in the center of the capital of the United Kingdom, said, on Sunday, the Ambulance Service of London, as quoted by international media. The attackers used a van to hit people on London Bridge, then drove to Borough Market, where they got out of their vehicle and stabbed passersby at random, until being fatally wounded by police officers.

– Ambulance service says 48 patients were taken to five hospitals; 21 are in a critical condition

– Four police officers were injured, two seriously; Eight armed officers fired a total of 50 bullets at the three attackers;

– One member of the public suffered gunshot wounds and is receiving treatment in hospital

– 12 people have been arrested during police raids in Barking, east London;

– So-called Islamic State claim responsibility for attack;

– It’s understood one of the attackers lived at the address in Barking; neighbours say he was married with two children.
