President Iohannis signs decree appointing Deputy PM Marcel Ciolacu as interim Defence Minister
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has signed on Wednesday the decree by which Deputy Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu is appointed interim Defence Minister.
The head of state has also signed the decree to vacant the position following the resignation filed by Adrian Tutuianu.
Minister of National Defence Adrian Tutuianu announced he has filed the signed resignation on Prime Minister’s table on Tuesday. Later in the day Prime Minister Mihai Tudose accepted the resignation.
“I have submitted the resignation, it is for the Prime Minister to decide,” Minister Tutuianu has told Antena 3TV on Tuesday. He pointed to the poor communication on the issue of payments to the military’s wages.
Late on Tuesday, PM Tudose stated “there is money in all ministries” and that the budgetary rectification is positive and it will be adopted by the Government in a week. The premier also said there is no problem with the salaries in any state institution.
The Ministry of Finance claims in a press release that there are no problems in paying salaries at the Ministry of National Defence. “As a result of the information in the media, we want to inform you that there are no difficulties in paying the wage rights of the Ministry of National Defence employees, and that there are no such problems at any other ministry.”
Speculations have surfaced following the resignation of Defence Minister Adrian Tutuianu, saying it is allegedly the result of a settlement of accounts within the PSD.
