President Iohannis talks to EU ambassadors in Bucharest about Brexit, NATO summit in Warsaw
President Klaus Iohannis met the ambassadors of the EU countries to Romania on Thursday within a working dinner hosted by the Netherlands Embassy in Bucharest. The debates tackled the UK referendum and the upcoming NATO Summit in Warsaw.
“Referring to the referendum in the UK related to EU membership, president Iohannis voiced hope that the British citizens would decide that the United Kingdom stay in the European family. In Romania’s view, such a result is the best option both for the UK and for the EU altogether,” reads a press release by the Presidential Administration.
At the same time, the Romanian President talked to the diplomats about the NATO summit in Warsaw and the topics of the agenda of the European Council on June 28-29.
“President Iohannis presented Romania’s expectations from the NATO Summit, insisting on the need of balanced and proportional enhancement of the entire Eastern flank of the Alliance. Romania’s President also pleaded for strengthening of the EU-NATO cooperation, which is essential for efficiently approaching the current security challenges,” also reads the release.
Klaus Iohannis also told the EU ambassadors in Bucharest about Romania’s joining Schengen, the European path of Republic of Moldova, the migration crisis and the domestic local elections.
