President Iohannis to address the Parliament in a week
President Klaus Iohannis sent an open letter to the Speakers of both Chambers of Parliament on Monday, proposing to deliver a message in the joint plenum of the Parliament on February 9, starting 4 p.m.
The Romanian President’s letter comes a few hours after he met the Speakers of Senate and Chamber of deputies, Calin Popescu Tariceanu and Valeriu Zgonea at Cotroceni Palace to discuss about the legislative top priorities of the parliamentary session that has just kicked off on Monday.
The Romanian head of state underlined during the meeting the need for the Parliament’s image getting cleared in the political life and in the citizens’ consciousness, according to a press release issued by the Presidential Administration. Voting abroad, amending the law of political parties’ financing, the transparent financing of the parties and of the electoral campaigns and the electoral legislation’s amending were among the debated topics.
Iohannis informed with this occasion that he would have regular meetings with the Parliament’s Speakers.
The Senate Speaker, Calin Popescu Tariceanu said he was “happy” about President Klaus Iohannis’ “will of communicating and collaborating.”
