President Klaus Iohannis has stated on Tuesday that the protest meeting to be staged by the ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD) seems to him „a ridiculous, purely populist approach”, as the protest concept is normally associated to the opposition or to the civil society discontent with the ruling in a democracy.
„Meetings are a form of protest and, in a democracy, the protest is normally associated to the opposition or to the civil society discontent with the ruling. The protest meeting cannot be associated to the rulers in any normal society. The ruling power has the Government, the Parliament, has all the tools to solve the country’s problems. Protest is the last form to resort to. It seems to be a ridiculous, purely populist approach,” the head of state said.
PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea announced on Monday that the party will stage a rally against the abuse in the judiciary system in Victoriei Square on Saturday, June 9, at 8 p.m, arguing “there are an underground power that is infesting important decisions”.
