President-VP meeting at Cotroceni Palace
President Klaus Iohannis on Wednesday met vice premier Gabriel Oprea at Cotroceni Palace, a day ahead new political debates on the Tax Code topic. Political sources told local media that Oprea went to Cotroceni shortly after the Government sitting ended. The meeting lasted about 20 minutes.
Previously in the day, PM Ponta expressed confidence that Thursday’s debate on Tax Code will be the last one and that the Parliament would pass the code next week.
“I am confident that the political leaders will have the last meeting tomorrow and that we’ll have the Tax Code in Parliament as of next week. It’s a basic project for Romania, we did it very well, we discussed it with the business environment, we sent all figures and information to the political leaders,” Ponta said, adding that there were investments, exports in the past seven months, and higher returns went to the state budget.
The prime minister also stated that now is a good moment for fiscal relaxation.
“Now it’s the time for fiscal relaxation, when things are going well (….) if we lose this moment this year, I don’t think another good moment for fiscal relaxation and of jobs rise will come too soon,” he mentioned.
