The Prosecutor General’s Office took action ex officio and opened a file “in rem” (referring to the act), following the statements of George Simion, who said that “those who committed the coup should be skinned in the public square.”
“The Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice was notified ex officio, on March 10, 2025, regarding the commission of the crime of public incitement (…). In fact, it was noted that on the evening of March 9, 2025, in the context of a protest that took place in Bucharest, the president of a political party, who is also a deputy in the Romanian Parliament, made a series of statements inciting violence. We note that in this case, the criminal prosecution is being carried out in rem”, the Prosecutor General’s Office announced on Monday afternoon.
The National Audiovisual Council had decided to remove all posts made by the president of AUR, George Simion, that incite violence. The decision was taken unanimously in the CNA meeting.
The Council also has powers in the online environment, not just for television and radio.
After the BEC rejected Călin Georgescu’s candidacy in the presidential elections, Simion said, in a video message on Facebook, that “those who committed the coup should be flayed in the public square.” “With how angry the world is, I can’t take responsibility anymore. Those who committed the coup should be flayed in the public square for what they did. They are making a mockery of democracy. Whether you like Călin Georgescu or not, he is the man voted for by Romanians,” Simion said.
Today, in a press conference, he changed his statements and claimed that it was a “metaphor” and a “political expression” and that he was referring to the “flaying” of privileges and special pensions.

“those who committed the coup should be skinned in the public square.” So Prosecutor General’s Office reacted because it is the truth!
Panagiotis Spyridis, do you support the monarchy? I support the Romanian monarchy, as a Romanian, I can confirm it led to the most political stability.
Sorry, I do not support Monarchical governance. But I am very aware of this status.
Do you agree that having one would lead to more political stability or would be good because it is not biased?
