Although he has repeatedly assured the suspension of President Klaus Iohannis from office is not an option, PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea said on Monday that suspension is not out of the question, arguing the head of state is unacceptably late with taking a decision on dismissing anti-corruption head Laura Codruta Kovesi.
Dragnea’s announcement comes few days after Iohannis has announced he would run for the second time for the President’ office.
„It is not out of the question (editor note: the suspension) for he is unacceptably late with providing an answer. This game <to further read> (the Constitutional Court’s reasoning) is a mockery against CCR. He is very late,” Dragnea argued.
Asked to comment Iohannis’ announcement he will run for a second term for the Presidency, the SocDem chair replied: „Big surprise”.
Last week, Romanian President Iohannis announced he is still reading the constitutional judges’ reasoning through which they ask for Kovesi’s recall as DNA chief prosecutor.
About a week ago, PSD spokesperson Adrian Dobre used to say that the ruling party had not discussed ‘timing’ on a alleged suspension of President Klaus Iohannis. The statement came as Ludovic Orban had previously revealed that PSD is ready to start the suspension procedures against Klaus Iohannis next week.
