PSD denies links with Cambridge Analytica

The Social Democrat Party has denied any connections with Cambridge Analytica after a British consultant has told Digi24 that it’s possible that Cambridge Analytica might have activated in Romania through a subcontractor.

British consultant Rupert Wolfe Murray says he has been contacted by a Cambridge Analytica official, Mark Turnbull, in 2016, who was proposing him to work for the Social Democrat Party (PSD) during the electoral campaign of that year. More precisely, Murray was proposed to set up a team of two people, to provide advice and consultancy for two or three monhts, during the electoral campaign

Murray has eventually denied the proposition. „I said I am not working for political parties, especially in Romania. I have been working there for 17 years, I don’t want to ruin my reputation,” he argued.

Murray recounted that after the personal information scandal outbreak, he wrote to Mark Turnbull asking him if he had been eventually involved in the electoral campaign in Romania in 2016. „He told me: no, I haven’t worked under the name of Cambridge Analytica. But others said they are using many pitfall companies, under other names,” the British consultant revealed.

PSD retorted in a press release that it had never worked with or asked for a collaboration with Cambridge Analytica.

„Regarding rumours in the mass media on an alleged collaboration of the Social Democrat Party and Cambridge Analytica, we mention that PSD has not worked with this company and has never asked for such a collaboraiton, neither during the 2016 electoral campaign, nor some other time, before or after the ballot,” reads the PSD release.
