Romania, another 6 European states allegedly pledged to receive 10 times more refugees than in 2015. MAE denies

The US representatives attending the UN General Assembly said that seven countries, Romania including, pledged to receive ten times more refugees than they have done it in 2015, 20minutes.fr website reported.

Romania, Portugal, Spain, the Czech Republic, Italy, France and Luxembourg promised to receive at least ten times more immingrants than last year within the European migrant quotas or separately, the US officials reportedly said.

US President Barack Obama announced in the UN General Assembly that tens of countries vowed to receive a total of 360,000 immigrants in 2017, double than the current quotas.

However, Samantha Power, the US ambassador to UN explained that his would represent ‘a fraction’ from the necessary, as the UN Agency for Refugees assessed that approx. 1.2 million immigrants must be relocated.

In retort, the Romanian Ministry for Foreign Affairs said that Romania highlighted what has to be done on the refugees’ matter  during the summit in New York, but has never taken additional commitments other than the decision taken at European level.
