Prime Minister Mihai Tudose had talks on Thursday with the representatives of Bell Helicopter to discuss the intention to buy attack helicopters.
The Government says in a press release that also attending the meeting were Defence Minister Adrian Tutuianu, Economy Minister Mihai Fifor, Chief of Romania’s General Army Staff Nicolae Ciuca, Chief of Romania’s Air Force Staff Laurian Anastasof.
“After the talks, the Defence Minister Adrian Tutuianu, signed a letter of intent asking for prices and availability for the acquisition of attack helicopters that will be addressed to the US Government,” the Government informs.
The meeting at the Government offices was preceded by a technical discussion at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence.
“In the coming period, there will be a thorough discussion between representatives of the Ministry of Economy and those of Bell Helicopter regarding the setting up of a joint venture, as well as technological and know-how transfer allowing the production of helicopters on Romania’s soil. The decision will have a direct impact on the economic development of our country, while being at the same time a security generator in the area. We want to mention that the decision on the acquisition of attack helicopters is based on the acquisition plan recently approved by the Supreme Defence Council,” the release reads.
