“I’d like to send a clear message to our Romanian friends: soon, Romania will become member of the Schengen area. As politically responsible with this issue, I’ve worked closely with the Romanian authorities. Romania has fulfilled almost all its duties, so we are very close to opening the doors for our Romanian friends,” Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos said, zf.ro informs.

He added that the moment when Romania becomes member of the Schengen area is not far away, however technical issues should be solved.

“Several issues, most of them technical and practical, are still to be solved. (…) We are very close. It’s not a matter of time, but of meeting the last details. (…) The same situation is for Bulgaria and Croatia,” Dimitris Avramopoulos said.
