A report released Thursday by the Democratic Party in the US House of Representatives reveals that hotels owned by Donald Trump received significant sums of money from official delegations from several countries while the American billionaire was president of the United States. Among the countries that had official delegations staying in Trump’s hotels is Romania, with a VIP stay in 2017, which overlapped with the visit of President Klaus Iohannis to the USA, during which Iohannis was received by Trump at the White House.

The report shows that although the US Constitution forbids it, former President Donald Trump collected money from foreign governments who stayed their official delegations at hotels owned by him during his tenure in the White House.

The largest amounts were paid by China – more than 5 million dollars -, followed by Saudi Arabia, with about 600,000 dollars. In total, hotels owned by Donald Trump took in $7.8 million during his tenure, according to the report.

Romania is also on the list of countries that had official delegations staying at Donald Trump’s hotels. Unlike most others, our country appears in a smaller group – along with Azerbaijan, Georgia, Namibia – that benefited from Donald Trump’s hotel services, but the amount paid is not specified.

According to the documents provided by the Mazars firm to the democratic investigative committee, the Embassy of Romania in the USA had a “VIP visit” to one of Donald Trump’s hotels between May 31, 2017 and June 11, 2017: “Embassy of Romania VIP Visit (start date 05/31/2017, end date 06/11/2017)” – page 155 of the report. The period in which the VIP delegation of the Romanian Embassy stayed at one of Donald Trump’s hotels coincides with the period in which President Klaus Iohannis paid a visit to the USA, during which he was received by President Trump at the White House and they held a conference of common press
