Senate Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu has told a TV show on Wednesday evening that the Netherlands ambassador to Romania (e.n. the former ambassador) has attempted to convince him regarding what has to be done in the judiciary system. Tariceanu revealed he had told his Dutch counterpart about “the unacceptable conduct as ambassador”.

His statements came after former Justice minister, Titus Corlatean had also mentioned a day ago about the US and Dutch ambassadors’ “pressures” on Kovesi’s nomination in a top position in the Public ministry several years ago.

“In my case, for instance, the Netherlands’ ambassador hasn’t dared propose Mrs. Kovesi, but he was trying to explain to me, to convince me how we should act, what to do in the judiciary system, what is good and what is not. Shortly after this conversation, when I told him where he steps off, I recounted to my Dutch counterpart the unacceptable way of conduct as an ambassador and I told him the ambassador is breaking any diplomatic rule and it’s not normal. The consequence was that the ambassador had been recalled to the Netherlands after two months. There are ways to tell somebody where he steps off, mainly the ones who don’t respect the fact that Romania is a sovereign country. Unfortunately, there are things that happened in Romania because the Romanian authorities allowed these people to interfere in the problems that Titus Corlatean used to refer to,” Tariceanu stated.

He added that we are the only country in Europe where such things happen.
