Senate Speaker Tariceanu meets US VP Mike Pence, hands invitation to visit Romania
Senate Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu met on Tuesday, in Washington DC, US Vice-President Mike Pence and invited him to pay a visit to Romania, in order to find out directly, from a country in the first line of the NATO Eastern flank, the realities and the current issues.
In a release, the Romanian Senate informs that Speaker Tariceanu met US Vice-President Mike Pence and Lt. Gen. (ret) Keith Kellogg, National Security Adviser to the VP. He reaffirmed the importance of deepening the cooperation framework within the Romania-US strategic partnership, which, in his vision, is built on issues exceeding the temporal issues of political governance in the two states.
The Senate Speaker stressed the important role played by Romania in adapting and implementing the defence and deterrence measures in the Eastern flank of NATO and has pleaded for diversifying the bilateral political dialogue. Tariceanu also pleaded for an increase of the US’ economic and strategic participation in Romania and for establishing a permanent military presence. He has also stressed the importance of American investments in the off-shore energy sector in the Black Sea, the release reads.
The talks approached also topics on the regional developments, as the Russian aggression in the Black Sea area, the consequences of the Brexit and the new importance of the Romania-US strategic partnership in the post-Brexit world.
