Simple motion against Agriculture Minister, rejected by Chamber of Deputies
The simple motion filed by the National Liberal Party (PNL) against Agriculture Minister Petre Daea, was rejected on Wednesday by the Chamber of Deputies plenary, with 150 votes against, 93 votes for and 20 abstentions.
The simple motion entitled ‘After Caragea’s plague, Romania is hit by Daea’s swine fever’ (Ioan Gheorghe Caragea – ruler of Wallachia 1812-1818, during who’s rule the country was affected by bubonic plague – our note) was debated on Tuesday, in the presence of Minister Petre Daea.
The signatories have accused the minister of being ‘incapable’ to meet the office requirements, with disastrous management on the prevention, fighting and eradication of the African swine fever in Romania.
The Liberals claimed the lack of vision and action has significantly contributed to the spreading of the disease to more than 200 localities in 13 counties.
Agriculture Minister, Petre Daea, said it would be a world premiere that the swine fever is defeated by simple motion, adding that “neither Dancila Government nor Daea have not made the virus in a pot and spread it in the country.”
Daea said other countries, such as Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and recently Belgium, have not been able to fight this disease.
When filing the simple motion last week, PNL Deputy Adrian Oros claimed it was filed “due to the disastrous way the development of African swine fever was approached by Romania, which dramatically influences the meat processing industry, besides agriculture. In order to put an end to the disaster, we file this motion.”
