The European Parliament has decided to hold a plenary session to tackle the current situation in Romania, more precisely to discuss about the justice law amendments and rule of law, but also about the recent protests in Bucharest, Digi 24 reports.

The leaders of the EP’s political groups have agreed in today’s sitting to put this debate on Romania on the agenda of the plenary session of the European legislative in early October.

The MEPs will discuss about the justice law amendments operated the past months in the Romanian Parliament, but also about the recent protests in Bucharest, focusing on the violence during the Diaspora rally on August 10. The Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament submitted the proposal.

Romanian PM Viorica Dancila is expected to attend the session. There is no concrete invitation procedure, but there is a custom that leaders should come before the EP plenary sitting when there is a debate about their country.

President Klaus Iohannis will also go to the European Parliament at the end of October, to deliver a speech about the state of the nation, a speech that all European leaders are delivering in rotation.
