After President Klaus Iohannis said he would advocate for a communism museum, the Social Democrat Party and the National Liberal Party are racing to put forward a bill to create such a museum.

PSD Senator Sorin Iliesiu is working on a draft placing the museum at the Parliament Palace and a second section at former Jilava Fort 13 penitentiary, where the communism’s dissidents used to be imprisoned. “I chose Jilava Fort 13 because all former political prisoners were got there. Visitors must see the inhuman conditions that prisoners had to bear,” Iliesiu argued.

In their turn, Liberal MPs want to draft their own bill on the communism museum. According to PNL, the museum should shelter all the documents regarding the abuses and crimes on the communism’s opponents during 1945-1989.
